What are the three types of interlocks?

The three types of interlocks are:

1. Mechanical Interlocks:

  • Use physical mechanisms, such as levers, latches, or locks, to prevent machine operation until the guard is secured.

2. Electrical Interlocks:

  • Use switches, sensors, or circuits to stop power or prevent startup when the guard is opened or removed.

3. Electronic (Control) Interlocks:

  • Use advanced systems like programmable logic controllers (PLCs) or software-based controls to monitor safety conditions and stop operation when necessary.

Each type ensures machinery operates safely by preventing access to hazardous areas until specific safety conditions are met.
