What are the two different types of guarding?

The two main types of guarding are:

Primary Guarding – Physical barriers like fixed guards or interlocked guards that prevent direct contact with hazards.

Secondary Guarding – Safety devices such as light curtains, two-hand controls, or pressure-sensitive mats that detect and stop machinery when a safety zone is breached.

Both types work together to ensure comprehensive protection for workers.
